Cynthia L. McCann

Ms. McCann’s priority is providing thoughtful and creative advocacy and strategies to help her clients reach their goals. She is dedicated to educating clients about the legal process and working closely with them to develop a plan for achieving a positive resolution of their unique legal issues.

Since 1999, Ms. McCann has focused her practice on the Eastern Shore in the areas of real estate development, land use and zoning, and family law. Her practice also includes municipal law, estate administration, and general civil litigation at both the trial and appellate court levels.

Ms. McCann has assisted property owners and residential and commercial developers, in a variety of real estate and land development matters including: subdivision and site plan approvals, re-zonings and Critical Area re-classifications, special exceptions and variances, municipal annexations, and litigation involving real property, landlord and tenant, homeowners association and contract disputes. Her practice has also encompassed the representation of local governments. From 2009 to 2013, she served as the attorney for the Town of Rock Hall Board of Appeals. She has also provided representation to the Kent County Board of Zoning Appeals, and the Town of St. Michaels Board of Appeals.

In the area of family law, Ms. McCann’s experience includes the representation of individuals in custody and divorce matters, including litigation involving alimony claims, and the preparation of separation and pre-nuptial agreements. She takes a special interest in court appointed representations of children in contested custody cases. She is also trained in collaborative law and is an experienced, court-approved mediator.

Ms. McCann holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in French having graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1988. Subsequently, she attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School and received a Juris Doctorate in 1996. She began her practice on the Eastern Shore in 1999, joining Stevens & Associates, LLC in Centreville, which became Stevens, Phillips & McCann, LLC in 2007. Thereafter, in 2012, she practiced as a partner in the Chestertown office of a Baltimore-based law firm prior to joining forces with her esteemed colleague and friend Kathleen Duckett McCann, Esq. and forming McCann Law, LLC in October, 2013.

Ms. McCann is a member of the Kent, Queen Anne’s and Maryland State Bar Associations, and has served on the MSBA Judicial Appointments Committee since July 2010. She is also a member of the boards of directors for Mid-Shore Pro Bono, Inc., based in Easton, Maryland, and Community Mediation Upper Shore, Inc., based in Chestertown, Maryland.
